Scottish Gaelic baby names are used by Scottish Gaelic speakers. Scottish (also called Scots Gaelic or simply Gaelic) is the Goidelic language spoken in Scotland. (It should not be confused with the Scots language, which is related to English.) Scottish names are used in Scotland. The full name usually consists of a given name, middle name and a family name. Given names are often Gaelic in origin (see Ancient Celtic names). Others have an Old Norse origin (see Germanic names), due to the historical Norse contact with Scotland. English names are widely used. See also European names.
